Second Life Fashion from ReadMeri | Good Morning I’m 9

So today is my 9th rezzday! Because we don’t have a DJ on at AAi tonight and Thom and I will probably watch a movie or something, we had a wee celebration last night at Chris’s set.

Thom had got me a card and a wrapped gift at home and he had put a banner and some balloons up at the club too. The gift turned out to be, well… I think I’m going to let you see that for yourself. Let’s say it backfired on him a little and after laughing my socks off for a while, I decided to video him extricating himself.

So, 9 years ago today, I arrived bald and naked (quite common in those days) at the start place, staggered around clueless and then sat on a bench feeling like this was like those bad dreams you have and was eventually picked up/taken pity on by a guy who took me to a freebie place to try to get me dressed. I embraced the land of freeb with aplomb until I saw other avatars who had nicer things and then my interest in SL fashion took root.

Was it like I thought it would be? No. I thought it’d be like the Sims only the people had people in them. I wonder how many other people thought that? Quite a lot, I imagine.

Occasionally, people I knew a long time ago come back into SL for a while and ask me how things are and I say ‘the same’. For a while, I wondered if that meant I’d somehow failed to advance or was simply a very boring person, but I’m coming around to the idea that it’s actually a good thing, at least in SL.

I met Thom after 6 days in SL, opened AAi after almost a year (and managing another club for a while) and so sustaining those things over the longer term has been what I’ve been doing, really. Keeping things exactly the same isn’t possible, but by standing still in SL, I’ve seen a lot of people pass through the doors, had a lot of fun times and been a point of contact for those who come and go.

Indeed, this very blog goes back 7 years, although it has evolved and changed over that time, it’s great to have a record of how things were at that time (the same, yet different).

I raise my glass to you, fellow SLer, and wish you all that I wish myself on this auspicious occasion – a long and happy SLife, where you get to experience everything that has made SL good – other people.
