Slink Hourglass Redux Review & Is it Spring?

Is it Spring?
God I hope it’s Spring. I’m more than ready for it. I think it might be for the following reasons:

  1. The sun is out and I can see little sunshine symbols on the next few days of weather on my phone app.
  2. The daffodils in my garden are coming out and my crocuses are in full bloom.
  3. My cat went outside today for the first time in a long time, voluntarily. She is now hurling herself against the living room window in a frenzy cus an insect flew past.

Keep it all crossed folks… I know it will be the best thing for us!

In other news, I’m wearing the Slink Hourglass body today. I know, don’t faint. I haven’t cheated on Maitreya Lara since I got her some years ago and quite honestly, I’m still happy to wear ML most of the time. But us lucky Blueberry bloggers got a full pack of the Slink bodies from Siddean Munro and I couldn’t resist trying them out.

I had already tried a demo of the Slink Physique body and while I liked it, I didn’t feel it was very ‘me’. The Slink Hourglass body, however, is much more me. In fact, it’s like me but moreso.

I asked Thom if he’d noticed I had a different body on and he said, ‘I noticed you were more curvy. It’s nice. I’d do you – more than once’.

Now, while he was being a little tongue-in-cheek there, and more than a touch flirty, for him to say he likes any change to Meri straight out like that means it really is good. The curves and swoops (I know, odd word, but it just feels swoopy) of the body make me feel very sexy and womanly. I love my itty bitty waist and my curvaceous, natural thighs and hips. That song ‘Ma Humps’ was written for this body, I’m sure.

I, however, have my reservations for full-time use. I realise when you are given a product to review, it’s traditional to just say good things but while I am saying it’s an awesome body, I have a slight criticism of the overall package provided in light of ‘Bakes on Mesh’ and I have to tell you, reader, because that’s how it rolls here at ReadMeri.

I embraced ‘BoM’ pretty much as soon as it came out. I’m not a natural applier lover. I do like my skin and tatts being there no matter what (no falling off when I add something else, for instance, as used to happen with my neck tatt in particular), I love adding layers to an outfit, tights, tattoos, undertops, underwear, etc.

The Slink Redux bodies have been created to appeal to BoM lovers, indeed, I popped on the Slink Hourglass Redux body and straight away it whipped up my skin and tattoo layers and popped them neatly and efficiently onto the body. No fuss.

Then I put on some Blueberry clothing and it was perfect, but my brain was still ticking… what if it didn’t fit perfectly? I put on some clothes by other designers that weren’t quite so well-fitting and found the body poked through. No problem, thought I, I will fetch up the alpha HUD and block out those parts. I found there is no alpha HUD for the Redux bodies… you have to use alpha layers, like with a system body.

Again, this wouldn’t be an issue if creators were putting custom alphas into packs to compensate for pokey-outy areas, but they stopped doing that ages ago.

Slink provided some basic alphas to start off their Redux users, but for instance, the alpha for jeans stops at mid-calf height and even using the sliders on the HUD enclosed (which expand and blur or retract the alpha shape on the body), I couldn’t get it to work with full length jeans without poke through on the lower leg. My one remaining choice (in the pack) was to put on a boot alpha as well and have no feet or ankles.

Slink say it is so easy to create your own alphas outside of Second Life and upload them and I vaguely remember doing this in the distant past, but it’s a pain isn’t it? I mean, yes I’d do it for an outfit I loved and was going to wear over and over again, but I’m a blogger. That means I use an outfit a day (and sometimes more than that) and I need it to fit straight away, no bother, or to be able to alpha out those problem areas easily.

So, in summary, I love this Slink Hourglass body, but I will probably go and get a skin applier for it and use the standard version with the alpha HUD rather than try to use the Redux version on a regular basis.

I wish they had incorporated an alpha HUD into the Redux version too – I might have considered a full-time switch for this change! Maybe one day, fingers crossed ❤

Blueberry has an awesome offer on for the mega pack of this outfit and it’s so varied – like, there’s a top and pants version instead of a dress, the boots come in 3 different ways and heels and flats and yeah… it’s awesome, click through to her flickr for full deets.

Until it becomes clear what can and what can’t be linked to and from a Flickr picture without it being considered ‘commercial activity’ I will no longer be linking to stores, marketplace, or events. I shall instead link to the creator’s Flickr where available, so you can find what you need from them directly. I recommend using SeraphimSL to find event details and links.

  • Yes! Your curves are very swoopy now! You look lovely! I had to make a custom alpha for a customer and while it’s not that hard if you are accustomed to it, it is a pain to do if you haven’t done it in ages. Hopefully Ms Slink will listen and do a little update 🙂

  • I don’t think I had ever heard of ELIKATIRA, till I read this blog. I tracked down the inworld store, and zapped over, looking for the cute hair/beanie you have on… couldn’t see it anywhere, but did buy 2 different hairs (one in black, and the other in black, and in white), one of which also had a super-cute beanie, with a choice of cat, fox, or bear ear shapes. Where did you get the one you are wearing? She (?) makes lovely hair.

    • She really does, most of the hair by Elikatira is quite old. I’d try marketplace. I thought I linked that Foxy one to the actual page on marketplace… worth checking for sure.

  • Great review. 🙂 I don’t want to have to work that hard to make outfits work. 🙂 I can stand opening up the hud to hide body parts here and there, but creating an alpha is just too much work. And would I need to do it per outfit? That could get spendy fast. 🙂

    • Well, singe score through night be covered by the alphas provided… I bought a sweater the other day im blogging tomorrow I think which came with an alpha. I used it on my Lara just fine too, so that’s useful. I hope more creators start releasing an alpha again.
