We shall overcome

We shall overcome

I feel inspired this morning. This Monday morning. I woke with a hangover after the most amazing party in Second Life last night to celebrate mine and Thom’s 12th Anniversary (amongst other things – notably, his rezzday 28/3, mine today, my RL birthday coming up shortly and Elbe’s birthday too!).

There were friends there who I see regularly, friends I haven’t seen for years, people who dropped by to give their good wishes and folks who came and stayed to dance for hours. They were all appreciated and loved by me. It’s good to have that feeling of being a part of something.

Especially now, when we are all isolated and isolating. We’re all trying hard to stay alone and follow the rules, so as to put an end to this virus, wreaking havoc with our world.

I listened to the Queen’s speech today and she talked about strength, quiet dignity, fellowship and resilience. I’m not sure she said all those words precisely, but that’s what I heard. WE SHALL OVERCOME.

We will beat this.

And as in any war, it will not be without casualties. But, as in all wars, it may take until it is over for us to truly grieve what we have lost.

In the meantime, we have to Keep Calm and Carry On. Batten down our hatches and try, where possible, to get through this with our sanity and dignity intact.

We have to be there for each other in the ways that we can, look out for those of us who are not coping well and try to give them our support and love.

I also feel so fortunate myself today. A friend who cares did something lovely for me and Thom, something which will allow us to remember our anniversary and party forever and she did it with no fuss, no acclaim, no credit to herself. I’m not used to people making such efforts to surprise me or please me, but this was so much appreciated. Thank you Liz.

I feel lucky to have the friends who were there last night, and the ones who couldn’t be.

I’m lucky to have such friends, gained in a virtual world and loved in the real one. Thank you, everybody.

Until it becomes clear what can and what can’t be linked to and from a Flickr picture without it being considered ‘commercial activity’ I will no longer be linking to stores, marketplace, or events. I shall instead link to the creator’s Flickr where available, so you can find what you need from them directly. I recommend using SeraphimSL to find event details and links.
